Der Schieber wird als Absperrorgan in die Rohrleitung eingebaut und regelt den Durchfluss des Mediums in Wasserversorgungssystemen (außer Trinkwasserversorgungssystemen) und in der chemischen Industrie.
Das Funktionsprinzip des Schiebers besteht darin, den Schieber (Schieberplatte) senkrecht zur Strömung des Mediums zu bewegen. Wenn der Durchmesser der Nennweite der Rohrleitung vollständig blockiert ist, wird der Durchfluss gestoppt, und wenn er teilweise blockiert ist, wird der Durchfluss reguliert.
